Chiropractic Care and Running

Fall is a great time to run in St. Louis. The air is cooler, there is less humidity and there are many running-related races and events. Regular running can be stressful on the body, and chiropractic care can be used to help runners in by helping to prevent injuries and by treating pain or an injury from running.

Preventing injury helps runners avoid pain, and includes analyzing posture, and identifying strength imbalances. An imperfect alignment that can lead to injury from repetitive stress. Regular chiropractic treatments can help runners improve posture and correct strength imbalances in order to remain injury free.

Various running injuries can be treated effectively with chiropractic care as well including:

•Shin Splints: Symptoms include discomfort in the lower leg varying from tightness to severe pain. Shin splints often accompany the initiation of a new running program.

•Stress Fractures: Sometimes presenting similar symptoms as shin splints, stress fractures cause pain in the lower leg and in the toes.

•Plantar Fasciitis: Often the result of excessive pronation of the foot, the condition produces pain that occurs with the first steps after standing up.

•Knee Pain: Typical conditions cause discomfort directly below the kneecap and in the surrounding area.
