Prenatal Massage

What is Prenatal Massage?

Prenatal massage promotes relaxation, soothes nerves, and relieves strained back and leg muscles in expectant mothers. It is especially beneficial in the second and third trimesters, when the extra weight in a women’s belly puts a strain on their back.

Treatment Time

A treatment usually lasts between 30 minutes and 1 hour.

Benefits of Prenatal Massage

Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema (or swelling). In addition, pre-natal massage reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension-which aids in better sleep-and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes. Women with normal, low-risk pregnancies can benefit greatly from prenatal massage. However, women in high-risk pregnancies should consult their doctor or midwife before beginning one of our massage therapy programs.
